No breed gets more double-takes than the Polish. Their extravagant feathered crests — like a wild pom-pom on top of their head — make them the most visually distinctive birds in any flock. They're quirky, charming, and endlessly entertaining to watch.

Why backyard keepers love them:

  • 🥚 150–200 white eggs per year — solid production from a breed that's primarily kept for its personality and appearance
  • 🎩 Spectacular feathered crests — each bird has a unique "top hat" that makes them instantly recognizable
  • 🐓 Friendly and docile — gentle birds that are easy to handle and great for showing
  • 🎨 Assorted color varieties — our assorted hatches include a mix of color patterns for a diverse, eye-catching flock
  • 🏆 Popular show birds — a favorite at poultry shows for their dramatic appearance

What to expect from Chesapeake Hatchery chicks:

Our Assorted Polish chicks come from show-quality breeding stock in a variety of color patterns. Chicks are vaccinated for Marek's Disease and backed by our live arrival guarantee. Note: Polish crests can obstruct vision — keep an eye on crest feathers as birds mature and trim if needed to prevent pecking from flockmates.

Weeks to first egg: 20–24 weeks
Egg size: Medium
Egg color: White

Chick care overview

Brooder temperature: Start at 95°F for the first week, reducing by 5°F each week until fully feathered.

Food & water: Offer chick starter feed and fresh water immediately. Dip each chick's beak gently into the water on arrival to encourage drinking.

Hydration boost: We include hydration supplements in your shipment — add to water for the first 24–48 hours to help chicks recover from transit.

Space: Allow at least 0.5 sq ft per chick in the brooder for the first few weeks.

Watch for: Huddling under the heat source (too cold), panting or moving away from heat (too warm). Active, spread-out chicks are happy chicks.
