If you've ever wanted a chicken that looks like it belongs in an art gallery, the Blue Laced Red Wyandotte is it. Rich mahogany red feathers edged in intricate blue lacing โ€” these birds are showstoppers in any flock, and they back up their looks with solid egg production and a calm, easy-going nature.

Why backyard keepers love them:

  • ๐Ÿฅš 200โ€“240 large brown eggs per year โ€” reliable production from a heritage breed built to last
  • ๐Ÿชถ Stunning blue lacing on rich red feathers โ€” one of the most visually striking breeds available
  • โ„๏ธ Cold-hardy with a rose comb โ€” minimal frostbite risk, ideal for northern climates
  • ๐Ÿ“ Calm and docile โ€” easy to handle, integrates well into mixed flocks
  • ๐ŸŒฟ Dual-purpose heritage breed โ€” good for both eggs and meat production

What to expect from Chesapeake Hatchery chicks:

Our Blue Laced Red Wyandottes are selected for correct lacing pattern, type, and temperament. Chicks are vaccinated for Marek's Disease and backed by our live arrival guarantee. Note: lacing quality and color intensity develop as birds mature โ€” chicks will not show full adult plumage until several months of age.

Weeks to first egg: 18โ€“20 weeks

Chick care overview

Brooder temperature: Start at 95ยฐF for the first week, reducing by 5ยฐF each week until fully feathered.

Food & water: Offer chick starter feed and fresh water immediately. Dip each chick's beak gently into the water on arrival to encourage drinking.

Hydration boost: We include hydration supplements in your shipment โ€” add to water for the first 24โ€“48 hours to help chicks recover from transit.

Space: Allow at least 0.5 sq ft per chick in the brooder for the first few weeks.

Watch for: Huddling under the heat source (too cold), panting or moving away from heat (too warm). Active, spread-out chicks are happy chicks.
