The Cream Legbar is one of the most practical and fascinating breeds you can raise — it lays beautiful blue eggs, and you can tell males from females the moment they hatch. For anyone who's ever wanted to skip the guesswork of straight-run chicks, this is the breed for you.

Why backyard keepers love them:

  • 🥚 180–230 blue eggs per year — consistent blue egg production from a breed that's both rare and practical
  • 🔍 Auto-sexing at hatch — male and female chicks have distinctly different down colors, so you know what you have from day one
  • 🌿 Active, independent foragers — thrive in free-range environments and are excellent at finding their own food
  • 🪶 Distinctive crested appearance — a small crest and upright carriage give them a unique, charming look
  • ☀️ Adaptable and hardy — handles a range of climates and conditions well

What to expect from Chesapeake Hatchery chicks:

Our Cream Legbars are selected for true auto-sexing genetics, blue egg color, and correct type. Chicks are vaccinated for Marek's Disease and backed by our live arrival guarantee. This is a rare breed — availability is limited and hatches fill quickly.

Weeks to first egg: 20–22 weeks
Egg size: Medium
Egg color: Blue

Rare, practical, and beautiful — reserve your Cream Legbar chicks before this hatch sells out.

Chick care overview

Brooder temperature: Start at 95°F for the first week, reducing by 5°F each week until fully feathered.

Food & water: Offer chick starter feed and fresh water immediately. Dip each chick's beak gently into the water on arrival to encourage drinking.

Hydration boost: We include hydration supplements in your shipment — add to water for the first 24–48 hours to help chicks recover from transit.

Space: Allow at least 0.5 sq ft per chick in the brooder for the first few weeks.

Watch for: Huddling under the heat source (too cold), panting or moving away from heat (too warm). Active, spread-out chicks are happy chicks.
