Why backyard keepers love them:

  • 🧸 Exceptionally docile — one of the calmest, friendliest bantam breeds
  • 🪶 Feathered feet — round, fluffy little birds with feathers down to their toes
  • 🎨 A mix of colors — a hatchery-choice assortment for a colorful flock
  • 🐣 Good broodies — hens often go broody and make attentive mothers
  • 🏡 Small and easy to keep — bantam size fits small yards and coops

What to expect from your Cochin Bantam chicks:

Your Cochin Bantam chicks are an assortment of purebred Cochin Bantam varieties. Colors aren't recorded or marked, so we can't tell you which colors you'll receive, and show quality isn't guaranteed. Marek's Disease vaccination is optional and is not included in the chick price. To vaccinate your chicks, check the Marek's vaccine box in your cart. Chicks are backed by our live arrival guarantee.

Breed specifications

Production

Approximately 100 small cream to light brown eggs per year. Kept mainly as pets; output varies.

Maturity

Typically begins laying around 24–28 weeks. Timing varies by individual bird and growing conditions.

Temperament

Exceptionally docile and friendly; great for families. Hens often go broody.

Appearance

Small, round bantams with soft, profuse feathering and feathered feet. Assorted colors chosen by the hatchery.

Adaptability

Cold hardy. Keep bedding dry so foot feathers stay clean; provide shade in summer.

Chick care overview

Brooder temperature: Start at 95°F for the first week, then lower it about 5°F each week until they're fully feathered.

Food & water: Offer chick starter feed and fresh water right away. Dip each chick's beak gently into the water on arrival to encourage drinking.

Space: Allow at least 0.5 sq ft per chick in the brooder for the first few weeks.

Watch for: Huddling under the heat source means they're too cold. Panting or moving away from the heat means they're too warm. Active, spread-out babies are comfortable.
